The GREATEST Vegan Bacon Recipe EVER

bacon 1.jpg

Vegans aren't vegan because they think bacon tastes bad...most of us are well aware the deliciousness of bacon. It is the principle of abuse that doesn't taste or feel good. The great news...you don't need a pig for bacon!

Once again I am completely blown away at how amazing plant based cooking can be. We stumbled upon this recipe from watching a hilarious couple on youtube called 'So your dating a vegan' It is a bacon recipe that is made from rice paper...Ya I know it sounds nothing like fatty, crispy, tender bacon-but it really does deliver all those things!!

The marinade is incredible- and the texture of the cooked rice paper (spring roll wrap) is on point.

We stayed pretty close to the recipe but changed the process a bit. The recipe originates from the Edgy Veg blog. Once you got the hang of the process this recipe is quick and easy and is endless with opportunities...The first night we made it we wrapped them up with tortilla vegan mayo, lettuce, and tomato.

Prep time: 20 min          Cook time: 7 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 Sheets of rice paper

  • 2 T olive oil

  • 2 T nutritional yeast

  • 3 T soy sauce

  • 1/2 T garlic powder

  • 1/2 T maple syrup

  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Fuse two rice paper sheets together by wetting them a little. Cut into strips with scissors or cut with knife (scissors works great)

Mix up marinade and get a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup/nonstick. Dip the strips of rice paper in marinade and set them on the cookie sheet.

Bake for 7-8 minutes. It will crisp up more after taken out of the oven. Be watchful, will burn quick! Enjoy!!
